When my friends and I get together these days, our conversations unfortunately bear little resemblance to those of Carrie Bradshaw & pals who convene daily to dish about guys and sex. If you fast-forward their lives two more decades, I suspect they would be more like us – sharing their woes about menopause instead of men. Or, more specifically, insomnia, hot flashes, memory loss, whether or not to take hormones, which supplements work, doctors that care and the fact that we’re even talking about menopause! When did this happen to us?
With so much of our population experiencing the same symptoms (would you believe more than 60 million women are of menopausal age in this country alone?) you’d think there would be tons of information, and even consistent guidance from medical professionals. But in the end, we are unique individuals and the solutions we seek are up to us to find.
So, in my quest for relief, and my desire to share information and new found wisdom, (if not solutions) I’ve started this blog and hope it will be the beginning of a community of women who want to help each other, no matter where you live in the world.
What can you expect? Interviews with and contributed posts by experts; suggestions for books and links to noteworthy articles; recommendations for health products that have brought relief of menopausal symptoms for me, or others; and of course, an exchange of of personal experiences, suggestions and guidance and even support, too.
Whether you’re a “40-something” woman, just beginning to experience changes in your body that only you notice, but can’t explain; a sleep-deprived 50-something in full-fledged menopause; or someone who has made it to the finish line, I hope you’ll visit often and contribute in ways that can benefit others.
